Performing Hip Hop Dance
You can perform on stage on your own. However it is most common to perform with at least one other person or other dancers as well like in a dance crew.
If you intend to be a solo act, you may find it beneficial to dance with other dancers at first on stage to get used to it. Or if you feel ready and are brave enough, just go for it alone and get some performance experience under your belt!
When dancing with others there will usually be a choreographer(s) that has the routines and performance planned out for all the dancers. Therefore you need to be good at following instruction and learning other people's choreography.
If you have your own choreography ideas or want to do your own dance style you may want to start up your own dance group and go it this way.
If you do this everything become flipped. You will have to make the routines, decide where and when you're going to perform, how many dancers you're going to need and things like that.
There are different types of performances you can do. If it is a show with lots of different dance acts performing the vibe is generally a lot more supportive and people will applaud each other.
If it is a dance contest or competition it may not be like this at all. People will only applaud the really good acts, the people they are supporting...and may even boo when they are unhappy. Therefore preparation becomes very important because no on wants to be booed!
When it goes well there is no better feeling and you just feel that all that work has been worthwhile.
Sometimes things may not go perfectly, steps may be missed or the audience may be quiet. Nearly every dance has experienced this and the best thing to do is to try and learn from it, and not to let it discourage you.
Everyone wants to be loved on stage, however you have to earn it. It can be tough but that's the way the world works.
